Nigel Farage is taking a break from the scandal about his ties to crypto investors by headlining a rightwing festival backed by crypto investors.
The Reform UK leader is the main draw to CPAC Great Britain, an event put on by the UK’s shortest lived prime minister Liz Truss.
The event, which kicks off today, is described by Truss as “a launchpad for the policies and leaders that will shape the future of the West”.
The crypto currency lobby group Bitcoin Collective is listed as a “strategic partner” of CPAC Great Britain, as reported by DeSmog. It will lead a discussion on “the alternative money revolution” during the three day conference. It is not known if the group has provided funding for the event.
Farage is currently facing a self-triggered byelection after being investigated for failing to disclose a £5m donation from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne. The MP for Clacton has also been scrutinised for his ties to George Cottrell, a convicted fraudster, who the Times revealed this week made undisclosed donations to Reform.
CPAC Great Britain is modelled on the annual gathering of conservative thinkers and politicians in the United States. Jacob Rees-Mogg, historian David Starkey, former Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith, and Israel’s deputy foreign minister Sharren Haskel are scheduled to appear at the event.
Lucy Connolly, who was jailed after calling for hotels housing asylum seekers to be set on fire, will appear alongside Tory peer Toby Young for a talk called “Free Speech Under Siege”.
Ticket prices range from £75, for youth, to £10,000, which will get you a seat at the “Sir Winston Churchill Gala Dinner” and “VIP access”.
