Second Mass Funeral in a Month Held for Gaza Children

More than 100 Palestinians, including 70 children, were buried in Gaza on Sunday, after their bodies were recovered from rubble.

It was the second mass funeral held in a month for Palestinian children killed in Israel’s genocide.

Their bodies were recovered from beneath the rubble of destroyed homes in Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighbourhood, Al Jazeera reported. 

Ahmad Alhendawi, Save the Children’s regional director for the Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Europe, said: “These scenes must enrage us. Humanity cannot accept mass funerals of Palestinian children as a reality, and we cannot stand still and watch this continue.

“It’s been 332 days since the “ceasefire” plan was signed, yet over 300 children have been killed since then. Israeli forces must stop killing, displacing and maiming children.”  

The previous mass funeral was held on 4 August, when 112 people, mostly women and children, were buried after their remains were recovered from the wreckage of a residential block in Gaza City’s Sabra neighborhood. They were killed by an Israeli airstrike in November 2023. 

The latest mass funeral took place days before British foreign secretary Ed Miliband announced a ban on the import of all goods produced in illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank. The UK followed its announcement with a joint statement with the foreign ministers of Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. All countries have agreed to introduce or support similar measures.

Palestinian rights groups and UK politicians have called for these sanctions to be just the first step, with former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn calling on the government to “end all arms sales, all military cooperation, and all forms of support that sustain Israel’s system of apartheid, occupation and genocide”. 

Israeli forces continue to kill Palestinians in Gaza despite the ceasefire. Four Palestinians were killed  yesterday, including a ten-year-old boy who was shot in the chest when the IDF opened fire towards the tents of displaced families in al-Mawasi, Drop Site News reported. 

Israeli tanks and gunboats also reportedly fired across Khan Younis, Rafah, Deir al-Balah and Gaza City. 

Israel has killed 1,355 Palestinians and wounded 4,516 since the ceasefire began in October 2025, according to Gaza’s health ministry. More than 73,000 Palestinians – including 21,000 children – have been killed by Israel in Gaza since October 2023.

Thousands of more bodies are believed to remain buried beneath the rubble across Gaza.
