The leader of Reform UK in Hampshire county council has been charged with 12 counts of rape and two counts of making indecent images of a child, among multiple other offences.

George Madgwick, 37, represents North East Havant on the council, where he leads the Reform group.

He was charged on Tuesday with a total of 35 offences, which also include eight counts of actual bodily harm, two counts of assault by penetration, two counts of sexual assault and two counts of controlling and coercive behaviour.

“He has also been charged with making a threat to kill, false imprisonment and stalking,” a spokesperson for the Crown Prosecution Service said. “Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence and that it is in the public interest to bring the case to court.”

They added: “We remind all concerned that proceedings against the defendant are now active and that he has the right to a fair trial. There should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”

The charges come after an investigation by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary into allegations relating to four complainants between 2008 and 2021.

The police investigation began on 24 July last year after officers received a report of a sexual offence. Madgwick was arrested on 6 January 2026.

He will appear at Portsmouth Magistrates Court on 25 November. Reform UK said he had been suspended with “immediate effect”.
