Literal communists need presents too.

You might have heard there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism, but some types of consumption are of course more ethical than others. If you’re celebrating Christmas by giving gifts, why not put your cash money into something sustainable, stylish or downright revolutionary?
Unless its our own merch, Novara Media isn’t getting paid for including any of these items in this Christmas gift guide – we just genuinely think they’re cool.
1. For the comrade with baggage.
Let the landlords of the world know how you secretly feel about them with our new tote in a stealthy, shiny black print. To get your Novara Media merch in time for Christmas, please order before midday on 19 December.

2. For the caffeinated revolutionary.
Cafe Rebelde Zapatista is a 100% Arabica fair trade coffee blend grown by Mexican and Columbian cooperatives. Sip to support the Zapatista struggle and help growers defend their communities and livelihoods.
Zapatista Organic Coffee Beans, £13.49 (per 500g)
3. For the Novara Media bestie.
Our t-shirts are made with organic cotton and screen printed with plastic-free, water-based inks. Remember, you need to order before midday on 19 December to receive Novara Media merch in time for Christmas.

4. For style AND substance.
Every single one of SEP’s keffiyehs are hand-embroidered by refugee artists living in Jerash camp, Jordan. Choose from 100% cotton, or blends of merino wool and silk or polyester and acrylic.

Multicolour Cotton Keffiyeh, £80
5. For the fizzy pop addict.
Craving cola but not willing to break BDS? Gaza Cola is 100% Palestinian-owned and apartheid-free and all its profits go to rebuilding hospitals in Gaza that have been damaged or destroyed by Israel’s genocide.

6. For the progressive patriot.
This footy shirt is made by street art collective Pattern Up in collaboration with Irish artist and writer Adam Doyle aka Spicebag, filmmaker and journalist Jake Hanrahan and British-born Pakistani artist Alina Akbar.

Palestine X England Football Jersey, £45
7. For the Ms Rachel fan.
Children’s educator Ms Rachel has consistently stood up for Palestinian kids during Israel’s genocide. This early years doll plays phrases, words and songs from her mega-hit YouTube show, and is Aaron Bastani-approved (although kids will enjoy it too).

Ms Rachel Speak & Sing Doll, £24.99
8. For the stresshead.
Living under capitalism is quite stressful but research suggests that a sauna sesh promotes both mental and physical relaxation.

Community Sauna Gift Card (London), 1 Session, £16.50

The Good Sauna MCR (Manchester) Express Session, £15
9. For the icon in your life.
Nod to the most iconic moment in TV history and horrify your conservative family members with a truly statement-making necklace, crafted in partnership with our comrades at Topple and Burn.

Literally A Communist Necklace, £29.95
10. For foodies who want a free Palestine.
A hamper of six fair trade Palestinian artisan foods from Zaytoun, all sourced from Palestinian farmers who continue to cultivate their lands despite living under illegal Israeli occupation in the West Bank.

Zaytoun Everyday Hamper, £36.95
11. For everyone who… uses loo roll.
Clean Sheet is a leftwing toilet paper company that not only makes 100% sustainable bamboo rolls, but also gives all its profits to grassroots organising because “the rich have enough cash”. You receive a gift card at Christmas and the box in February.

Clean Sheet Christmas Gift Box, £49.50
12. For the socialist sommelier.
Enjoy a festive tipple with Iranian grapes grown in the Zagros mountains by families with generations of experience, then exported to Sweden for vinification. Drood is the first Persian winery since the 1979 Iranian revolution.

Drood Winery IRDABAMA – The Merchant 2022, £31.50
13. For the anti-bourgeois bookworm.
A subscription to the UK’s leading not-for-profit book club means anyone can develop their own critical perspectives – and this month’s pick is Minority Rule by Ash Sarkar.

Left Book Club Subscription, £6.99 +P&P
14. For the chef.
Fans of The Bear, listen up. British company All Day Goods uses plastic destined for landfill to make the handles of its kitchen knives. The Petty all-rounder knife is handmade in Japan and saves the equivalent of 112 plastic bottles from ending up in the ocean. Can I get a ‘yes chef’?

All Day Goods Petty Knife, £90
15. For peace on earth.
Organise your 2026 activities with the 73rd edition of the Housmans Peace Diary. The cover design is inspired by the 1970s-era design of Peace News, a grassroots peace movement newspaper.

Housmans Peace Diary 2026. £9.95
16. For the rewilding ride-or-die.
Make your garden or balcony an attractive destination for pollinators with a bee hotel. While we can’t guarantee the stripy bastards will get five-star service, this RSPB bug house is ideal for solitary bees.

17. For the (dis)organised comrade.
With an item of people’s history on each day and room for year planning, this wall calendar is perfect for brushing up on the wins of the working class.

Working Class History 2026 Wall Calendar, £17
18. For the hophead.
Small beer from London’s first B Corp Certified brewery is great if you don’t want to get hammered, and harks back to a time when it was a safer alternative to water. Thanks to the failure of privatisation, we might return there yet!
