The Green party is the most popular among all UK voters under the age of 65, new polling from YouGov shows.

Zack Polanski’s party was polling at 26%, six points ahead of Reform UK, among 18- 64-year-olds surveyed by the pollster at the beginning of March, while Labour was on 17%.

The poll of 2,073 adults was conducted following the Greens’ historic byelection win in Gorton and Denton.

It put the Greens in second place among voters of all ages, just two points behind Reform.

Among voters over 65, the Greens polled at only 6%, while Reform was by far the most popular party at 33%.

Demographic and legal changes before the next election, which will happen no later than August 2029, could further tip the odds in favour of the Greens.

Legislation to allow people to vote from the age of 16 at the next general election has started its journey through parliament.
