Who are the mystery billionaires behind Britain’s decline – and how can we make them pay?
Britain has turned its capital into a global money laundering machine. The pavements of central London are home to a soaring number of rough sleepers, yet its streets are lined with empty mansions. Who owns these houses? Often, no one knows – because the wealthiest people in the world have built the perfect system to hide their assets.
In this one-off event, Professor Kojo Koram (author of Uncommon Wealth: Britain And The Aftermath Of Empire) and Dr Dalia Gebrial (Novara Live co-host) will be joined by expert guests to uncover how secret offshore billions are ruining Britain.
They’ll be sitting down with Peter Geoghegan, investigative journalist and founder of the influential Democracy for Sale newsletter; Stephanie Brobbey, a “recovering” private wealth lawyer and founder of the Good Ancestor Movement; Faiza Shaheen, an economist, activist and former Labour candidate for Chingford & Woodford Green, and Hannah Spencer, the newly elected Green MP for Gorton & Denton.
This event accompanies a gripping new podcast investigation series, Death In Westminster, produced by Planet B Productions and coming to Novara Media in March.
Death in Westminster is a gripping four-part investigative podcast hosted by Kojo Koram about offshoring and inequality. It begins with one life lost and spirals outward – from a tube station tragedy to offshore tax havens, from imperial history to modern finance. It’s a story about secrecy, stolen wealth, and how Britain’s imperial afterlife has turned its capital into a global money laundering machine.
