Job: Fundraising and Communications Manager

This job listing has now closed.

We are hiring a full-time Fundraising and Communications Manager to manage Novara Media’s fundraising operation and communications with our supporters.

Novara Media is one of the fastest-growing media organisations working towards radical social change. We’re not-for-profit, and donations from our supporters account for the vast majority of our income.

You will lead on building our supporter base and strengthening our supporter relationships through regular communications and eye-catching fundraising campaigns, alongside managing our digital newsletters. Although the bulk of our funding comes from small donations, you will also be responsible for identifying and writing grant applications, as well as establishing and managing relationships with donors wishing to make larger contributions.

The ideal candidate will be an excellent copywriter and all-round ‘people person’ with both fundraising and communications experience. You may not have worked for a media outlet before, but you will share a commitment to our aims and values and have an existing awareness of our audience and supporter base.

You will also need an aptitude for analytics and drilling down into the detail when it comes to our data. As this role is crucial for our revenue streams, you will be working with projections and generating targets based on our financial performance.

The candidate will be expected to work in our London office, but we are open to a hybrid arrangement for the right candidate if they live outside London and cannot relocate. Work patterns are negotiable subject to a regular schedule.

We particularly encourage women and BAME applicants.

If you have questions about the role, please email Pembe Tosun-Yusuf at [email protected].

Applications for this role will be reviewed on a rolling basis until we have found the right candidate to take NM to its next height. The initial deadline for applications is 5 July. After that, we will shortlist candidates for interview if we think they might fit the role. If no candidate is suitable, we will release a new deadline until we find the right person. Interested applicants are urged not to delay.

Key responsibilities:

  • Planning and executing multi-channel supporter acquisition and fundraising campaigns.
  • Maintaining and developing NM’s supporter retention and upgrade email journeys, including automated and rolling monthly communications.
  • Strategising NM communications to its mailing list, to expand and upgrade its supporter base.
  • Developing NM’s long-term one-off and regular supporter fundraising strategy with other strategic stakeholders.
  • Implementing (i.e. copywriting emails, social media, etc) NM’s communications with its supporter base.
  • Build and optimise both one-off and regular supporter email segments to deliver relevant communications and timely upgrade and repeat donation asks.
  • Managing NM’s newsletter infrastructure and campaigns using Mailchimp.
  • Managing supporters’ data in liaison with NM’s Digital Team.
  • Managing all enquiries relating to supporters’ donations to deliver effective and timely solutions while ensuring an excellent supporter experience.
  • Income data tracking, projection and reporting.
  • Developing and working to financial and supporter acquisition targets.
  • Understanding our audience and supporters, and generating insights.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with large donors.
  • Identifying and writing grant applications, and managing relationships with grant awarders.
  • Developing NM’s digital newsletter output in collaboration with NM editors.
  • Working with a wide range of internal stakeholders, from our merchandiser to our producers.
  • Ensuring accuracy across communications.
  • Adhering to NM’s Editorial Standards Code.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent copywriting skills.
  • A track record with successful supporter acquisition campaigns.
  • Experience of writing and sending donor/member communications focussing on supporter acquisition and retention.
  • Experience in large donor fundraising and relationship management.
  • Experience in supporter acquisition.
  • Experience in writing and managing grant applications.
  • Existing awareness of NM’s audience and supporter base.
  • Digital literacy and experience creating and sending emails using Mailchimp.
  • Experience creating financial reports using Stripe.
  • Proofreading skills and a keen eye for detail.
  • A high level of personal organisation and the ability to work independently.
  • A keenness to develop the role as NM grows.
  • Commitment to the aims and values of NM.

Location: The candidate will be expected to work in our London office, but we are open to a hybrid arrangement for the right candidate if they live outside London and cannot relocate.
